Whataburger History

Whataburger is a restaurant chain in the United States that specializes in hamburgers.

Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton opened the first Whataburger in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950.

The next year, Dobson and Burton ended their partnership. Burton became the owner of the franchises in San Antonio, Texas, and Dobson became the owner of the company.

In 1967 there were 17 Whataburgers. The company continued to grow and by 1972 there were 100.

Today there are over 700 Whataburgers, with about 600 being owned by the Dobson family and the rest owned and operated by franchisers.

The company passed the $1 billion in revenue mark in 2007.

Today Whataburger has 22,500 employees and had $1.3 billion in revenue in 2011.

Went to Whataburger on Montana&375 in El Paso today,10/28/15,during lunch. Our order was so screwed up. By the time we got through the drive thru, got our order started heading back to work,it was to late to turn around and go back. I called to inform management and was hung up on twice. This is beyond unacceptable . You pay your hard earned money just to receive sub standard food quality. I do hope this issue gets resolved.

I go to this Whataburger every morning before I go to work located at 905 N. Loop West Restaurant 89 and October 15, 2015 at approximately 9:30 am I notice an employee her name is Deneese and from the time I was their til 11:00 am she was working very hard tending to customers and most of all she was cleaning in a very efficient manner. She never ask her employees to help she just took it upon herself to keep this restaurant clean and that she did. I hope one day for her to have her own Whataburger Restaurant where she can be General Manager because I know that restaurant will be clean at all times. I hope you can forward this comment to her Manager Reynel Santana and this is what Whataburger needs empoyees like Deneese Thank You

The managers are rude to the employees, i heard the top manager tell one of her employees she was gonna break her face for just joking with her. They are very disrespectful…. they talk about employees behind their back and expect people not to defend themselves. Whataburger is a great place to work its just specific managers make it stressful.

I have never spoken to a rude manager before till today. I called to tell them that I found a hair in my burger and my husbands burger was raw and the manager acted like nothing was wrong. It took them forever to answer the phone and when they finally answered they did not say the business they answered it like they are at home. I am never eating there again.

This is a definition issue. You sell pieces not slices. However your employee did not ask if I desired three pieces at 40 cents per piece she assumed that’s what I wanted. I doubt you make purchases this way. You should always ask otherwise you are fooling the customer and this is unethical business practice. I will return when your employees ask how many “slices” at 40 cents each does the customer want. This gives the customer the ability to decide. Also three pieces of bacon raises the price of a Whataburger almost 30 percent. I doubt customers know this. Your company advertises that there are numerous ways to add to the burger order but does not advertise the predatory pricing associated with this choice.

Please forward my comments to your corporate office. I specifically asked NOT to be contacted yet you contacted me anyway. Another poor business action.

Good Morning,

I would like to apologize for the poor attitude you received from my employee, I would ensure I take appropriate action. I reviewed my pricing thinking we had done a mistake on pricing, but its correct its “40 cents per slice”. I would hate to lose a customer for a simple confusion. I hope you come back and visit us again. Once again I apologize for the confusion and the poor attitude you received from my employee.

Thank You,

My grandson worked for your company in Houston in August and the manager is refusing to send him his last paycheck. He is being told first he needed to pick it up, knowing he is in San Antonio. My question is should we contact the labor department in order to be paid. He worked at 1410 w Mountain Houston rd.
