Experienced problems with 2 Lay-a-Ways in less than 2 days at the same Roses location. On 08-09-2019 received call from Ms. Vanessa asking if I wanted the layaways.
I went that evening to pick them up. Store was closing so I only requested the smaller one. Told staff I would return the next day for larger layaway. On 08-10-2019 was making final payment to larger layaway, which was due out on 08-17-2019. To my horror, it had been “returned to stock” per store staff. I was totally livid, to say the least.
But there were 2 staff members who turned the situation totally for me. I want to give Kudos to the 2 women at the Gordon Hwy Roses Store # 1848 in Augusta GA, Ms. Pearl and Ms. Vanessa! These women went above and beyond to rectify the situation. They personally assisted me in finding comparable items and turned a disappointing situation around.
Variety Wholesalers should be very proud of the staff members! Again, Kudos to both women and to Roses Store!!!

I bought a tablet in Dec. as a gift. The tablet has not worked since day 1. When I took it (with the receipt) back to the store to exchange it, I was told that they didn’t have any in stock but they would as soon as their truck came in. After more than 5 trips to this store, I finally asked to just get my money back. The manager told me that my receipt date was now 10 days over the refund date (30 days) so there was nothing they could do now!!! After telling me to keep coming back for over a month because the product was not in stock, now they can’t give me my money back!?! This was a gift for someone for Christmas & I paid $58.99 for it!! This has got to be the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I’ve ever experienced!! I thought the point was to make your customers happy so they return…. Not to lie to them & drag the situation out until the refund/exchange date runs out!!! I would’ve been happy with an exchange of a WORKING TABLET!!! As an assistant manager at a much larger corporation, this is something that would not be tolerated in my store! But then again, my company also prides themselves in excellent customer service!!!! Maybe that’s the reason we have so many more locations/customers!! Roses should take notes!!!

I was in Roses’s store on 12/27/18 s tore # 464 in Memphis, Tenn. I was checking out , I had an item for $1.00 which is Christmas would have been half-price, but it rung up for a a penny . The store manager had a very nasty disposition she took the item and did not explain why she took it. Until I asked why I couldn’t purchase it. Then she told me if I wanted to pay for my other item and I did. By then the security came over to the ck out to see what was going on. I ask the store manager for the corporate office address and phone number, she wouldn’t say a word as if her mouth was glued. I did not do anything wrong except ask her if I could speak to someone else in charge. She still did not answer me.And rush me out the store . I was so embrassed as if I had stolen something. The employees nedd to be retrained in customer service.for elderly shopper. I was not pleased with my shopping experience at all. The customer are the reason they have a pay check especially the manager that was so nasty. She really lied to the security guard about the situation. Upset in Memphis at store #464 and the personell

I love Roses here in my home town of Opelousas LA. I began shopping there several years ago. Did not realize what type store this was. The previous location was not very inviting and I did have a very bad experience with the manager at the time, and a new employee being trained. I said I would never go back, but I was really surprised at the quality of products offered there. I did go back and had the pleasure of meeting this older lady, around my age. I am retired. She is a fantastic employee and past retirement age, but I respect her decision to continue working, and she has quite a few years with Roses. Her sweet personality convinced me to continue shopping there. Then Roses moved, a few spaces over to a nicer and larger location. Simply love shopping there. However, I want to offer some information that will hopefully improve an area of merchandise. I really love buying framed art. I am very disappointed in the framed art offered at Roses. I DO NOT like live, laugh and love art. I am not African American so I DO NOT want to hang those kinds of art in my home. I like framed arts of fruits, flowers, Thomas Kincaide type of framed art. I did see and bought lovely framed leopards, lions, giraffe type pics for my daughter as she uses this type of décor in her bedroom and master bath. I have been looking for nice framed bathroom art, framed different styles bath tub, lavatory, etc. I did see and bought s teacup shaped clock to hang in my foyer from my carport to my kitchen that goes with the curtains and rug I now have in place. I buy and wear a lot of clothes for myself from Roses and they are affordable. However, some of the garments offered are not of my styles. We have a few variety stores here besides Roses and offered some of the same things, however I found Roses has a better variety of all merchandise. I just hope to find more of the types of clothing and above mentioned framed arts. I have also bought many yard ornaments like shepards’ hooks, solar lights to place in my flower beds, as well as hang on my bricks near doors of entrance to my home. I am impressed with the quality. I hope my suggestions will bring the results I am hoping for in the future. I like creating wreaths to hang on my doors for visitors and passerbys to admire. I did buy a grapevine wreath today that was very reasonably priced. I shop Michaels and Hobby Lobby in Lafayette which is about 30 miles from my home. These same wreaths are sold there however, I found the one I bought today a little less thank the mentioned places. I am retired and living on a budget, so I am very happy when I find bargains in my home town. I would love to hear from Roses as to how my suggestions are helpful. Thank you. Betty Tatman

Burden S. told me about two weeks ago that I couldn’t receive store credit for some children shoes that were unworn and the tag still in tact. I went inside the store a few days later to ask for the corporate number. Kenya T. asked me why I needed the number and I told her I wanted to know the return policy. Kenya T. then says, “Well here’s the policy right here.” while pointing down at the counter. I told her I still wanted the number. Today, 7/9/18, I go back inside the store with the shoes that only costs $5.99 after speaking with their so called corporate people, 7/6/18, who told me that I could indeed receive store credit, before I even get to the counter Kenya T., who seemed to recognize me from prior immediately calls Burden. Burden comes over and I tell her nicely that I don’t have a receipt, but would like store credit. This woman says, “Yall love calling corporate about something! You probably put these shoes in your purse and stole them”. I responded by saying, “I don’t have a reason to steal anything ma’am”. She then gets loud saying, “Go get something that’s worth $5.99!” and walks off as I’m proceeding to head in the direction of the shoes and purposely bumps into me! A customer should not be accused of stealing neither touched! Something will be done about this matter. I don’t recommend anyone to shop at this location. I’ve never dealt with such rude customer service in my life!

I was terminated on June 6th because I failed to reach my 90 day probation period.
My father died on June 1. The current store and district manager stated that they would work with me. As a salaried manager, I expressed that I would be willing to not get paid (LWOP) because I knew that I wasn’t with the company long enough to receive FMLA.
What was the most uncaring, insensitive act was the the telephone call that I received by the store manager stating that I was terminated . I didn’t expect to be so disrespected by management while I was grieving the loss of my surviving parent from this so called religious based, non family first organization.
What God has for me is for me! Obviously, it is not Variety Wholesalers.

I only worked for a couple months before I quite my job here in Charlottesville VA. because a former assistant manger would get rude with me when I wasn’t able to come in due to be being pregnant. Now that I no longer work there it has been hard for me to get a statement from some one that I left back on 3/12/2018

I worked for Roses in Carrollton,Ga.I wasn’t fully trained on my job duties. But placed in store cause they needed help bad. Then tried to find out about my checks is frustrating.

Luther April 20, 2018 at 4:02 pm

This company is a poor excuse for a business. Everything about it is antiquated. I’ve been employed with them over a year and recently went part-time. The company continue to take full-time benefits from my check. Benefits that I no longer qualified for because I was now a part-time employee. We are refusing to reimburse me and right their wrong. Contact your local news 12 on your side or problem solvers this is the only way that they will pay attention.

On Sunday, December 31, 2017; I visit Rose’s Store on Farrington Dr. in Greensboro, NC. I made two purchases of merchandise in the amount of $200.00. I visit your rating and comments status; found out some of the same complaints I have, has already been addressed and not handled. But I will start with part of the complaint. I carried back deodorant for men and women, travel toothpaste kit, toilet paper, paper plate, women and men socks, serno burner, paper towel, baseball cap, an angel figurine, large tote, gift bags, women and men body wash, lotion. I live around the corner from a Rose’s on Meadview St. Greensboro, NC and decided to refund there. The cashier immediately calls the manager. The manager looked at the receipt and sad what am I to do with this stuff; we have none of this stuff in our store. Remind you she had two receipts because I made purchases on two different cards. The manager stated they don’t refund any chemical products, sernos, nor underwear. I ask why it’s not posted for the customers to see? The manager ramshack through the bag and said she can not refund any of this. I told her if it was a problem for her I would take it back to Farrington Dr. I carried back to Farrington Dr. and the cashier call the manager and the manager ask for a receipt and refund with no problem what so ever. I work retail for forty years and manager stores twenty-two years. I know the procedures haven’t changed that much I know. I know retail busy can’t change where they don’t satisfy the customer anymore. I always thought that was the business slogan; you make sure you please and satisfy your customer. Never let an angered customer leave your store. You as the manager sometimes have to step out of your boundaries to please a customer. This is my third bad experience in the Meadowview Rd. location so I will not be visiting it again.

The store that in newport news off Jefferson ave has to be the slowest store on the planet I can’t tell you how many times I’ve walked out of that store or just put things the staff are all older people which I have no problem with but they slow and like to hold conversations with people example long line one cashier they start talking about some tv show people put stuff down and walked away and it’s always like that need a solution fast or I’ll just shop smewhere else

Rebecca White May 18, 2017 at 2:52 pm

For months, I have been trying to purchase one of the square Red Copper frying pans that are advertised, for $10.00, on a regular basis in your flyer. No matter how often I check on them, they are never available. I have actually left my name and number, to be contacted when it arrives. I wasn’t sure if it’s not considered ‘false advertising’ to continue to advertise items that are never going to be available in the stores. I would like to purchase one of these frying pans, directly from you, since this seems to be my last resort. Please get back with me ASAP with the necessary information that I need to complete this transaction. I am very anxious to FINALLY get my frying pan. Thank you. Rebecca White

I’m right thing to say that I’ve been doing retailing for over 40 years and I have never been treated with such disrespect you know my life DM is making us work six days a week.last week I worked 77 hours in one week this week the young girl here has worked 87 hours in one week and we get not one complement in fact we get sick to our stomach’s come Sunday when we know he’s going to be there Monday so so I’m waiting for a job offer to called me and I’m leaving I’m not even give them a two weeks notice because the way they treated us the way they treat that the store manager is a shame we don’t get no sick days personal days not lying take him that’s why we get paid for that gives us no complements whatsoever
tells everybody the managers business which I think is Any our business that she didn’t get a raise that’s between to him and her I just want to say that I am leaving the company is only because of him and the morale in that store rock Hill South Carolina I’m sure he’ll get this one you don’t jump on Lora because I sent a text

Angela Shanks June 2, 2017 at 1:48 pm

I’ve worked for this company for many years off and on. You’re correct in saying there are no sick days or personal days. Last year my vacation was even taken away from me. This year I am diagnosed with cervical cancer and when I have a very bad day cancer wise I am treated as though Iam a bad employee. Even though all through the years I have jumped through hoops for this company. I am about to start seeing a specialist in Louisville and not sure what will happen. I have been getting grief the past few weeks because of my ailment. Even with doctors notes It is no excuse and it seems they think I am pretending to be sick. I was spoken rudely to today and nearly about burst into tears. I have to work under this stress of being looked at as if Iam a liar trying to get out of working. I am about to consult an attorney about this.

05/05/2017- I was shopping at your Roses Express Store, 502 Pearl St, Darlington SC and I was have trouble finding what I was looking for. I came across the Manager, her name tag had LISA LEWIS on it. While speaking with her, her cell phone was ringing. She told me to hold on and walked away. About 10 minutes later, still looking for what I needed went to ask her again. She was standing by the back wall still talking on her phone. She was setting up a date with someone, too busy to help me. I walked away in frustration. She then walk outside and began having a good old time with to girls. I went back in to complain and was told by the Assistant Manager, that she was hangout with her daughter and her daughters girlfriend, I was told That’s all she does, talks on her cell phone and hangs outside with her family members and a guy friend. This Assistant Manager helped me find what I was looking for. It took her 2 minutes to help me. There was only 1 out of 4 registers open so the line was back up down the shampoo isle. Now, I’ve been in this store for about an hour now for 2 items. Walking outside this same Manager LISA LEWIS was still having a good old time outside even after other customers complained. I will not shop at this store ever again and will let my friends and family know to shop elsewhere, If that’s what your company has to offer as Great Customer Service. This Manager Lisa Lewis Needs to be fired…

On March 4th,2017,the store is located in the Westside shopping Center on hwy 80 in garden city ga,approx.between 12:30pm and 2:00pm,i Was a customer in the store, looking at your display of dresses on sale, the manager of the store was very rude and unprofessional with one of the employees, she said very loudly ,(you have and attitude and if you don’t want to be here you need to go home,in my opinion, the employer should have been reprimanded in the office, not on the floor, the employee was so embarass,

Katrice Howard February 10, 2017 at 10:52 am

S Radford January 4, 2017 at 4:13 pm

Regularly go by Roses in Zebulon, NC. Usually get the spring water. Never is there any spring water on the sales floor. Always need to ask someone to get it from the back storeroom. Don’t you think you would sell more and have better customer service if items were on the sales floor for customer to readily get ??

Stephanie Rasberry November 30, 2016 at 11:23 pm

By the way, my concerns are at the Rose’s on Lem Turner in Jacksonville, Florida

Stephanie Rasberry November 30, 2016 at 11:15 pm

Why isn’t there a contact number or direct email address to contact your company of a have a concern regarding an experience at one of your stores? There was a pink sign on your electronic cabinet that said DVD 14.99 (a $24.99 value), there was no such product in that cabinet nor a price barcode stating that product ever existed. I have photos that I can send in a regular email. Also, that 7″ 5.1 Polaroid Android internet tablet as advertised $49.99 ($59.99 value) is not a sale price because the regular price is $49.99. That’s a problem with me and should be with you. Feel free to contact me so we can resolve this issue.
