The Longaberger Company goes back to 1919 when J.W. Longaberger took a job with the Dresden Basket Factory. During the Great Depression, Dresden closed, but Longaberger and his wife purchased the factory and began making baskets once again.
Their son, Dave Longaberger, had difficulties early in life but found that selling these high-quality baskets as he made his rounds buying for his restaurant and grocery stores.
The company makes handcrafted, maple wood baskets and other decorative items for the home. What started off as a two-person operation has now grown to more than 100 full-time employees and more than $100 million in annual sales.
Today, the company operates as a subsidiary of JrJr Networks, Inc.
The Longaberger Company frequently referred to as simply Longaberger uses direct marketing to sell their products. The company has approximately 45,000 independent distributors who sell their baskets via catalogs and home to home networking. Longaberger also has an active and extensive eCommerce site.
