The Container Store History

The Container Store was founded in Dallas, Texas,  in 1978 by two co-workers Garrett Boone and Kip Tindell. The company operates a chain of stores which offer consumer household organization items.

The company offers a wide range of items for organization and storage for almost every room of the home, as well as some that could be used for business, including filing cabinets, garage overhead storage containers and units, closet designs, boxes, and unique jewelry box containers. From the original small store in Dallas, the company today has more than 80 locations, with plans to open 30 more in the next 5 years.

In mid-2018, the company released a new set of ads with a creative tagline of selling space, rather than focusing on containers.

The Container Store went public on the NYSE and is sold under the ticker symbol: TCS. The company was sold to equity-based firm Leonard Green and Partners in 2007. Annual revenue in 2015 was $795 million. The company employs approximately 4,300 persons.

After visiting the White Plains store I decided to remodel my walking closet and at the time of check out I was told by two different associates that I paid for delivery and install. I questioned it because there was two different charges one that read Deliver/Install and the other one delivery. Two associates at check out informed me that one was for the delivery and the other one was for the install. Just to find out at the time of install that I had to dish out a huge amount. It is not right for your business or associates to make claims or give information in this case about pricing that is incorrect and creates a false impression. When speaking to the manager she made disrespectful remarks and did not solve anything. The area manager issued a gift card that was supposed to be applied to the cost of the install and just to find out that it can not happen!! Does anyone in that store/area know what is going on? Truly unacceptable and frustrated with this experience. I will make sure to share this experience around!

After waiting on line for 25 minutes last night in your White Plains NYstore, I promptly walked out leaving my cart, which was full of items easily totaling over $400. I have never experienced such an unprofessional attitude from a store manager. With 1 person ringing up customers she (the manager) ONLY appeared to ring up a $4,000+ order. Leaving 6 other customers on line unattended when she was finished. This is when I exited. I love your products, but it will be a long time before I consider going back.

I wanted to thank a few employees at the North Scottsdale and Phoenix (20th Street) stores. Please thank the following employees:

Tristan at the 20th Street store: Tristan was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and kind on several occasions I have shopped at this store. He is a great employee that is customer focused.

At the North Scottsdale location:
Karli and Linda for their help and kindness in loading my car, Laurie S. and Allison for their great help, knowledge and kindness in selecting products and at the register and a big thank you to the manager Shari for all of her help.
