Room & Board was founded in 1980 by current CEO and owner John Gabbert. The company was a subsidiary of Gabbert’s parents furniture store (Gabberts) and eventually became incorporated on its own.

Today, the company has more than 14 stores in 8 states, with 6 distribution centers around the country. There are approximately 715 employees. In 2016, the company listed annual revenue of $43.7 million. At least 90 percent of all products sold by the company are made in America, and 95 percent of the designs are Room & Board originals. The company partners with small, family owned furniture makers to produce its products.

Room & Board was listed in 2013 by Minnesota Business as One of the Top 100 Companies to Work For. The company’s products are also frequently listed in the New York Times. Company headquarters remain in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I live in San Diego and was so pleased when Room and Board opened a store here. I used to drive to Orange County in the past to shop and made several purchases I am very happy with.
I attended the opening day in San Diego and ordered a dining table and four chairs which I received and love. However, on Sept. 26, I ordered the Otis swivel chair in Peacock blue and received a delivery date of November 28 — a long wait but okay. Yesterday, I was given a revised delivery date of December 22 — an additional month later.

It should not take three months to receive an order for which my credit card has been charged and I have already paid. I always recommend R&B to my friends but am extremely disappointed in this purchase and will not be so quick to recommend you in the future.
