Pennzoil can trace its roots back to Los Angeles in 1913. The company is one of the leading makers of oil and gasoline in the US.
The company has been sold, acquired, and spun off several times over the years. Pennzoil acquired Quaker State in 1998 and Pennzoil-Quaker State brand was then acquired by Shell in 2002 for $2.9 billion. Although the company is best known for oil products, such as motor oils, and filters, it also sells gasoline, although most stations are now using the Shell or BP name.
Pennzoil is the official sponsor of the Grand Prix of Houston since 1913, as well as numerous other motorsports and professional race car drivers, such as Dale Earnhardt. Company headquarters are still located in Houston, Texas.
