Koch Industries History

Fred C. Koch formed the Winkler-Koch Engineering Firm with MIT classmate, Lewis E. Winkler. The partners developed a more efficient thermal cracking process for turning crude oil into gasoline. They were sued for patent infringement and were unable to continue to work in the United States. The partners opened 15 cracking units in Russia between 1929 and 1932.

In 1940 Koch joined new partners to form the company Wood River Oil Company. Fred’s son Frank joined the company in 1961 and became president the next year following the death of his father.

The company changed its name to Koch Industries to honor Frank Koch after his death.

In 1969 Koch Industries acquired a majority interest in Great Northern Oil Company.

In 1980 Koch Chemical Technology Group is formed.

In 1992 Koch acquired a $100 million portfolio from Chrysler, putting Koch in the municipal finance business. By the end of the decade, Koch Financial Corp. had #1 billion in assets.

Today Koch Industries operates in diverse industries, including refining and chemicals, process and pollution control equipment, and technologies, fibers and polymers, commodity and financial trading, and forest and consumer products. Its Flint Hills Resources subsidiary owns three refineries that together process more than 800,000 barrels of crude oil daily.

Koch Industries is #2 on the Forbes list of America’s Largest Private Companies. Koch has 67,000 employees and had $100 billion in revenue in 2011.

I manufacture the highest quality non-perishable food in the world but am unable to export it even with 20% discounts. The 25% overvalued dollar and the 17% Value Added Taxes at foreign borders add a 42% additional cost to my products for foreign customers. I have to discount 10% to sell into Canada because the Canadian dollar is only worth 76 cents U.S. Since 1998 and renewal of most favored nation with China, the trade deficit has been driving our Federal deficit by making our economy too small. As a person, enterprise, or national economy, whey you consume more value than you create you have to give up capital. Since 1998, our banks have bled about fourteen trillion dollars in capital as tax paying enterprise demand for 70 million tax paying jobs have been sucked out of our economy. Undisciplined free trade is where all other nations effectively have tariffs that block our exports as is occurring today. To negotiate those Vat’s and tariffs down we need reciprocal Vats and tariffs which is what Trump is trying to do with MAGA. The globalist stooges in Congress and in the White House over the last twenty five years have damaged the American middle class almost beyond repair. Now they are pure obstructionists to kill what ever chances that middle America has left to survive. The depth of corruption in Washington, and particularly in the diseased Democratic party, is being hidden by corrupt fake news that is truly the enemy of the people. The stupid simplistic video about trade on the Koch website never mentions the barriers to our exports that inevitably cause dangerous trade and federal deficits. The 2015 trade deficit consisted of 43% clothing, 23% automotive, 19% energy, 11% electronics, and only 4% steel. The video makes a big deal out of nothing when it highlights steel tariffs. So because Trump wants balanced trade, the Koch brothers no longer support Republicans. That is a big mistake as the socialist left is pouring hundreds of millions into out of State Democrat campaigns to support candidates for open borders, illegal voting, killing the Second Amendment, and violence against all opposition. They lefts calls the opposition racists Nazis which is actually what they are. Thanks to the Koch brothers, the future does not look good.

Chaplain Catherine Zylstra, MDIV November 16, 2017 at 10:25 pm

Dear Charles Koch,
I am a Board Certified Chaplain through the NACC, and I have served as a chaplain in health care and in other capacities, including with the American Red Cross in response to the May 2013 tornado disasters in Oklahoma. I understand you want the GOP to pass the tax reform bill that has been sent to the Senate.

I am deeply concerned that the most vulnerable persons in our Country will be left without health care if this Tax Reform and Jobs Bill gets passed by the Senate. The Senate wants to eliminate the mandate from Obama Care that all persons have health insurance. This will adversely impact the health care industry, making it very hard on persons to afford health care. And without the deductions for out of pocket medical expenses, families with disabled members, our elderly, and those with serious medical conditions may not be able to afford their health care, because they need those deductions in order to stay above water financially. They’re treading water.

I have read that your father was pretty tough on you and your other 3 brothers – and that the work ethic was really drilled into you. I suspect you believe that you worked hard for your financial success, and everyone can achieve this also just as you have. But Charles, that is not the reality. People don’t get to choose the family they were born into. And not every family is at an advantageous position to become wealthy – in fact, most are not. There is a reason you represent the top 1% of the wealthiest Americans. And as a Roman Catholic, I believe we are here on this earth to love God with all of our being, and to love others as we would want to be loved.

I have one question for you – what would your life be like if you did not have the wealth you currently possess? What would give your life a sense of purpose and meaning? I know that Koch Industries does help people. But are you helping those who need that help the most?

I am haunted by Jesus’ parable of Dives and Lazarus. As you know, Dives was a rich man who gave Lazarus table scraps. After they both died, Lazarus was safe with Abraham, but Dives was suffering the torments of hell. When Dives asked Abraham to warn his brothers of the mistake he made — hoarding the wealth and not sharing in compassion with Lazarus when they were both still on earth — Abraham told him that they had the Prophets, and if they did not listen to them, it would not matter even if someone were raised from the dead.

The Lord does not care whether we have wealth or not. It is not a sin to be wealthy. What is sinful is when we do not imitate Christ in how we distribute that wealth to those who are in the most need. Jesus’ inauguration speech taken from Isaiah proclaimed freedom for the poor. It is deeply rooted in the Salvation history of the Jewish people — and it is the foundation for Christianity. Whether you believe in God or not, one thing all people share in common is this — our lives are mortal and one day we all will come face to face with the One who created us — it is going to happen — it is not something any of us will escape. What will you say to Him when He asks you why you did not help His poor? The Lord will not care to hear how you became one of the most wealthy persons in the World. All He is going to care about is – did you feed the hungry? Did you help those who were ill? Did you reach out to the lonely? Did you reach out to those who were in prison? The disabled? The elderly? He will tell you that when you harmed those people, you harmed Him. And the judgment He will give won’t be temporary like passing or not passing a House or a Senate Bill — it will be for all eternity.

As a Chaplain, I don’t discuss hell or God’s judgment with patients and families I am providing pastoral care to. But in this case – because I understand your money is tied into a political party – the GOP – that appears to totally disregard the preferential option for the poor and Catholic Social Teaching — I am compelled to tell you if no one else has. I think you need to understand there are consequences in the next life for choices we make here. We are here to learn as best as we are able to, to love God and to love others – particularly those who have no voice in our society. If you live only for monetary wealth and material things — that is all you will be left with, my friend — because from this world you cannot take those things with you. What you take with you, is who you are — and who you are is God’s own Image and Likeness — but if you don’t live into that — then you become unrecognizable — to yourself – and to God.

I will hold you in my heart and my prayers, Charles. God bless you.
In Christ,
Catherine Zylstra, MDIV
Board Certified Chaplain

In regards to the post left by Catherine Zylstra, MDIV,
This is the message I wanted to leave with the Koch brothers. I agree with everything you wrote and could not have done the job you did in expressing these views. The Koch brothers need to understand that you are not the only one that believes this about them. I believe that a majority of the people in this country feel the same as you. A time will come when they will face consequences for their actions. I only hope it is before they destroy this country and the people living here.

Hi Koch industries:

Recently saw you piece with Megyn on Fox
and thought it to be very honest and informiblle.

Your Co has some aspects of it that help to fund start ups. Recently filed a U.S. patent on a life saving idea that is green and will help 10’s of thousands of people breath easier and live healthier lives.

The concept is Revolutionary and in some climates can pay for itself!!!

We’ve been doing it all wrong for 150 yrs
and this system will change the world!

Please contact me so I might have the opportunity to talk to a Company Representative . Thank You.

I submitted a job application for the Security Intelligence Specialist on your web site. However, it would not let me attach a resume? It was a pdf file within the word limit. Please advise on how I can forward this.
I did continue and filled out the application without the resume attached. Thank You and look forward to hearing from you…Joe Hudock

Mr. Blevins,

Going to be in Wichita and would like to talk with you for no more than 15 minutes. You may remember me back years ago with Goodyear when we beat the excise tax increase and took anticipation along with cash discount and marketing special. Goodyear rolled over a couple of times as they had not remembered that if not stated to the contrary then all discounts are additive versus chain.
MY phone number is 816 213 **** or the email.
