Hulu is a video streaming service that offers television shows, movies, and other media through its subscription service in the United States and its territories and Japan.
Hulu is a joint venture between NBCUniversal Television Group (Comcast), Fox Broadcasting Company and Disney-ABC Television Group. The venture was funded in part by a $100 million equity investment by Providence Equity Partners.
The joint venture was announced in 2007 and the site went live in 2008. The company began to make a profit in 2010.
Hulu is free for users; the service and website are paid for by the advertisers on the site. Microsoft, Toyota, McDonald’s, and Target were all original advertisers in 2008 and continue to be today.
Hulu Plus is a premium service that offers streaming of full current and past season content on TVs, PCs, tablets, and mobile devices for a monthly subscription fee.
