Hulu History

Hulu is a video streaming service that offers television shows, movies, and other media through its subscription service in the United States and its territories and Japan.

Hulu is a joint venture between NBCUniversal Television Group (Comcast), Fox Broadcasting Company and Disney-ABC Television Group. The venture was funded in part by a $100 million equity investment by Providence Equity Partners.

Hulu is free for users; the service and website are paid for by the advertisers on the site. Microsoft, Toyota, McDonald’s, and Target were all original advertisers in 2008 and continue to be today.

Many of the old tv shows I like to watch are missing episodes on cable, so I signed up for Hulu w/commercials to view these. Sometimes, when watching a series, I come across an episode I’ve seen, and want to move to the next one. This causes major problems for Hulu technical service. I get error messages like “unable to load video”, or “network error”, or “unable to play video.” Contacting a Hulu technical support is a complete waste of time; either they are all incompetent, or they are all instructed to tell customers that the problem is not related to Hulu service, (never mind that the problem occurred while trying to watch a Hulu program) and the customer should contact Roku (in my case) or their ISP. What a joke. Hulu is cheaper then Netflix, Amazon, Sling, whoever, because they cut corners with the technical part of their service. Here’s a newsflash for the cheap bastards running Hulu…”Your Service is useless if the customer can’t get what they’re paying for!”

I’ve been having connectivity issues for 3 month and have contacted HULU 3 times in the past month. The first person sympathized and offered me a discount which I have never seen. The 2nd person asked me is I lived near mountain and the 3rd person told me their service requires more bandwidth than Netflix and YOUTUBETV. And when I reminded her that this was a relatively new issue she wanted me to do a speed test – It’s NEVER their problem. AND NOW, THEY ARE ASKING US TO PAY MORE FOR THE SAME BAD SERVICE. TIME FOR ME TO MOVE ON…….

Watching Hulu is a nightmare. First I can’t watch it on Firefox, only Google Chrome. Then Google Chrome won’t work and I have to click on Control, Shift and the Letter N to watch it incognito. And if your balance is due but you don’t get paid until 2 days after your balance is due, they refuse to work with you to be able to keep watching Hulu until you can pay your balance. I’m going to look for a better alternative to Hulu.

I’ve been with Hulu for years never complained about anything. I upgraded my subscription to live TV without commercials paying for both limited commercials and no commercials. I get commercials no matter what. I called Hulu and talked to 4 different customer service Representatives. No one could help me!! Asked for corporate phone number and was told you will never get to talk to any one in corporate. Hulu is charging customers $11.99 for a service they never provide. That’s illegal and needs to be addressed. I’m currently looking for a better provider.

I have 3 tvs in my home but can only stream to 2 with HULU I can not justify paying $15 more per month to watch my 3rd TV. This is the reason I canceled my subscription to HULU and switched to SLING.I hope you change your pricing so I can switch back to HULU

Had tried Hulu and enjoyed it. Thought about signing up……….not going to happen. Your decision to not advertise on a conservative program for political reasons sealed it. It is truly a shame that everything has to turn political. It is your choice to do what you did and mine to not support you. For the time being, we are still free to do so. No one should be forced to conform to one point of view!

My comment is concerning your sponsorship of the Lora Engram show. We support that program and do not consider her word about the protester out of order. Listen to what he says and the profanity he uses. Can to comment?

I signed up for a free trial. IT states clearly that the free trial is for 1 mth. 30 days it says. I called in on the 16th, and cancelled 1 subscription I was paying for. I had 2 at the time. I had one i was paying for, and I had a free trial with live tv. The reason being. One my acct, and one my husbands, for different tvs. We wanted to try the live tv, so we were willing to try it. IT stated after he signed up for the free trial that we would be billed on October 11th. Well, come Sept 18th I was charged on my card 39.99 for the live tv. In doing so hulu overdrafted my acct. I called hulu, and told them that I wasn’t suppose to be billed until oct 11th. The informed me that there was only 1 week free trial with live tv. FAlse advertising as it says 30 days, and also, because it gave me the date of oct. 11. “they” stated that reg hulu and premiums are 1 month, but live tv is only 1 week. It does not say this when signing up for a free trial as a new customer. Now to look at my acct, it shows that on the 11th of oct, i will only be billed $2 and something, because it is pro-rated. So basically their wording should say, pay in a week, get a free 30 day trial. Because you pay before your month begins. So this is all false advertising and wrong information given. Now back to the overdraft of 39.99. They informed me it would 3 to 5 days before that money will show back in my acct, bc it is my banks process. Well, here’s the problem with that….I will be charged the 37.95 overdraft fee as I only have a 24 hr grace period for overdrafts. Why should I have to drive 30 miles to my bank, for their misinformation? They said, to tell my bank it wasn’t authorized so they can wave that fee. Well my bank would consider this a dispute, and it would take 90 days to process. So therefor, the 37.95 would be added to the 39.99, and then every 5 days another $25 is added. Which I would receive my refund from them at 3-5 days for $40, when the negative amount at that time would be in the range of $80 to $105. So I’d still be losing $40 to $65, and have no service for anything. So 1, if i do drive and pay the $40 to make my acct current. I am paying $40 that it told me I didn’t have to pay until Oct 11th, and now I don’t even have service since they cancelled it. OR 2. I let my bank handle it, and a domino affect of fees keep adding to my acct. I have to pay money and don’t even get service. Also I asked their names, and they wouldn’t give them to me, and they also wouldn’t tell me where they are located. I was a telemarketer for 9 years, and know the privacy concerns, but there are ways around this, especially location. Also I know the call and calls can be pulled also. I need to get that done. I need somehting done. People are getting ripped off by them and this false advertising. Not to mention they owe me money for the mess they have created. Also, I want to mention that the “live” tv doesn’t even work. IT freezes and there are parts of the shows it won’t even let you watch. This is AFTER they billed me for it. So if i am paying for my service shouldn’t it work? I filed with the better business bureau and they said it sounds like a good case, and suppose to be contacting me back.

And no it isn’t my internet either….it’s HULU crap!!!

Brenda Wright July 23, 2017 at 4:07 pm

What in the world have you done? you changed the app and now nothing works right. It doesn’t recognize my e mail or my password. But I am willing to bet it will recognize my credit card!. Funny how I can see HULU if I try to log in after several attempts. but then it dies after watching a program for a little while. Guess I should cancel my subscription then? If this continues I will drop Hulu like a hot potato.

I have tried three times to find out why my Hulu account does not connect. Last Sunday I spoke to both Verizon and a technician at Hulu. Neither could get your programs to operate on my TV. The final outcome of the almost three hours I have spent following the instructions of both the Verizon tech and the Hulu tech, was that your tech would research the problem and get back to me. It is Thursday and no contacthas ben made. I have written other emails with no response. The Hulu tech told me that you have problems with Samsung TV’s. I would imagine that would concern you, since these are very popular and an upscale product.
Please contact me ASAP to resolve this problem. HULU does not work on Samsung seems not to be a new marketing ad!

Cheryl May 3, 2017 at 10:25 pm

I HATE the update. I didn’t appreciate sitting down after a long day and wanting to watch my shows and it shutting down for an update. I just got hulu and just started figuring it out. I cut of my cable and this was my only source of tv so I didn’t get my relax time. I didn’t like coming home tonight and realizing after a long day that my hulu was shut down because of an update last night and now I want to watch my shows again but have to figure out how to work this crappy update. This update makes using hulu more complicated. Bad decision…it should be more user friendly not less user friendly!

Kosta Krotinis March 27, 2017 at 10:57 am

You advertise that I can stream a show after it’s aired but that isn’t true. For instance Black Sailes has started 9 episodes into year 4 and none are available. That is only one show.

Shawn Whitehead March 13, 2017 at 2:15 pm

Greeting to you,

My name is Shawn and I would like to take this opportunity to talk to you about what I need to do to get in touch with the correct people on discussing involvement on trying to bring back the show Metalocalypse. I know that animation cost a lot of time and money, and I also know that Brandon Smalls only had one more season for his Metalocalypse dream to be complete, how dare you cut his dream short. Isn’t it taught to finish what you started, and why would you cut his leg out from under him, how would you like it if someone did that to you… and if so why do the same. What has happened to this country, where the peoples voice doesn’t matter, well guess what, It does matter, and I will do anything That I have to do in order to get come kind of positive feedback on helping Brandon Smalls finish what he started. I do hope I get a reply on trying to convince Adult Swim to help finish what they started. Please hear me, and help me. I thank you for your time and hope you have a wonderful day.

Please reply or I will take further actions to obtain what Information I need. Thank You.

Not that anyone at Hulu cares, but I am not able to update my billing info and customer service on the phone does Not care to help me. I am Not at all interested in changing my payment date. How is Hulu still charging a card that has the wrong zipcode? I guess Hulu cares Not for customer security? This is just one issue, the other issue I guess is not worth mentioning as my recorded phone calls proove that no one at Hulu cares to fix the latency issues coming directly from Hulu? Hulu is over priced and a waste of money as it is not reliable or customer oriented. What a shame guess it is back to competitors? I do Not expect a reply as Hulu does Not care of long term cutomers, the half price sign up for new customers shows that! When I asked customer service about that I was told it is only for new customers or ones who have commercials in their plan? So full paying members do NOT matter to Hulu? WTF??? !!! Is this a bad company or just ignorant corporate capatialistic ways? Perhaps both? How can you bill a credit card with the wrong zipcode over and over? Hulu owes me an explanation since I am a full paying member.

Jim December 6, 2016 at 9:44 pm

You know i remember when Hulu first came available to internet users. I don’t have a problem with paying for a service but in the past a person was able to search the web site to see if a particular TV show was available to watch, but now I can’t even access the site enough to verify that the show is available. The TV show was so popular at one time that the creators never made it available to watch on the internet.

Hulu has gotten so big that it forgot its roots to its customers. get out of bed with the banks and shareholders and remember whom made Hulu popular in the first place.

John July 11, 2016 at 11:01 pm

Could y’all give us new movies thanks

Sue May 18, 2016 at 7:20 pm

It would be nice if you would comply with the law and provide closed captioning for ALL programming. Should you continue in this manner after being informed multiple times… I will have no other choice that to call you out publically and contact the DOJ and the attorney general’s office.
thank you

Ted Clark May 4, 2016 at 9:31 am
