Cosi History

Cosi was founded in Deerfield, Massachusetts, in 1996. The company operates a chain of restaurants that focuses on using flatbreads baked on site.

In 1999, the company merged for a while with restaurant/bar XandO, and a few locations were named Xando or Xando Cosi. The company sold the rights to its Washington, DC, stores to Capital C Restaurants, who operate them as franchises. Cosi has approximately 71 locations in the US and franchises in United Arab Emirates and Costa Rica.

Cosi filed for bankruptcy in September of 2016, forcing them to close approximately 29 of their company owned locations. The company is currently looking for a buyer.

I did also try calling the Cosi, that my husband did work at but they could not give me any information except for the corporate phone number. I could not reach anyone on that phone number.

On 5/18/17 I Roger D Callands (employee) at Cosi of New Rochelle was forced and made to leave my job by a shift manger by the name of “Yolimar Garcia” I arrived at work and noticed after I clocked in that the line was not properly restocked nor clean efficiently for the next shift! I politely asked what side did she want me on and she “pointed ” salads! a partner by the name of “Shannon Gordon” was on the line as well, I over heard her tell him he can leave and I politely asked her why didn’t he restock ? Her reply was “we was very busy” I then informed her that it was busy on yesterday but before I went home I had to restock! She rudely replied ITS NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION! We all (partners) and management know that she has favoritism when it comes to him and certain workers they get away with things that other partners are made to do which is not right.

Moreover as the day went by she was acting very nostalgic and nonchalant but I payed her no mind, I then restocked both sides and also noticed that there wasnt clean plates or serving trays for the guest, I went into the kitchen to place all the dishes into the dishwasher and she rudely said to me “LEAVE It! I then noticed once I got back to the line that the serving plates was finished ( because of a minor back injury ) i asked for help to lift the trays and called on a partner by the name of “alli” to assist me, the DMO by the name of a Betty “joking” with said “you a man take all of them” I replied ” cosi does not pay me enough if my back goes out and I fall” IMMEDIATELY Garcia replied SO LEAVE ! I replied ” I beg your pardon ” she said LEAVE go find another job if you feel like that! I replied and told her I was not talking to you stay in you lane ! She said we don’t need you here LEAVE find another job ! I didnt know how to react or respond to that other then tell her I WAS NOT TALKING TO YOU ” she then told me to CLOCK OUT! GO HOME! and you are not to return for one week! Over something that had nothing to do with her at all, it was a joke between me and DMO !

She then ended a FACETIME conversation on her cell phone and called the store manger ” samba ” and lied telling him I was rude and she sending me home…. in rage i got my things and asked her for the swipe card to clock out ! She lied and told me she did but she didn’t until I followed her and it was done … as a 37 yr old man she made me feel very uncomfortable in my work environment all because I asked for help to carry the serving trays to the front of the house!

She displayed poor management, implemented poor judgment and as always has an aditude and talks to partners with no respect! I told her because of the way she spoke to me and retaliated I quite ! She replied ‘” GREAT I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO SAY THAT” I was going to slap her, but I kept it professional seeing that shes childish and ignorant!

She’s rude arrogant,mean, and a pathological liar! Shes a manipulator and will do anything to get someone fired! she implements poor management writes fails write ups on partners for every little thing they do, in the seven months I’ve been working there, she has showed favoritism, she flirts and wears provocative unbecoming clothing to work, pants caught up in between her buttocks exposing her genitalia and she knows it! She loves attention!!!!

She also boasted narcissistically to another shift leader “Eric” that she gets her way that’s why she’s a “ASSNT MANGER and I don’t even have a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA” SHE SAID THAT PROUDLY ….Ridiculous ” these are what kind of people you hire? but she yet informs partners they need a high school diploma when interviewed! (that needs to be investigated)

Once I noticed how she performing ( btw its on VIDEO CAMERA ) in the store ” she threatened me and told me to leave before she call the police! She caused a great commotion and had guest as well as partners wondering what was going on!

I did not do anything nor said anything wrong to her and feel I was mistreated downplayed and disrespectful, as a High School Graduate holding a BA MA and Doctoral degree, in all of my work experience and achievements and certifications I never was so disrespected in my life from and ILLITERATE High School “Drop out” of a manger! As a former Manager, Serve Safe certified! This is not the way you conduct yourself nor implement management in a restaurant!

She informed me she was glad I made the choose to leave and SMILED and clapp her hands! I will do everything I can to see to it that necessary action be taken even civil law suit!

Wondering why some Cosi restaurants dog friendly and some are not? In particular, after noticing this when I googled other Cosi’s, I called the Cosi in Wareham, MA to inquire whether they are dog friendly and I was told no (service dogs are the exception.) Cosi in Wareham is located in a plaza with a good number of dog friendly establishments that welcome leashes dogs. When I called I was told that Cosi offers tables and chairs outside the Wareham restaurant. That’s not appealing on cold New England days.

I’ve been calling an sending e-mails an no one will get back to me i know some people have got there w2 that use to work there an some haven’t its just a big problem for me because i havent got them yet im trying to file please send me my w2 ASAP.

This actually isn’t a complaint. I am a previous employee. I worked for the minneapolis location before it was completely closed.
