Circle K History

Circle K was founded in El Paso, Texas, in 1951 when Fred Hervey purchased three “Kay’s” food stores. He simply put a circle around the letter “K” and left it at that. The company went through numerous acquisitions over the years and today belongs to Canadian firm Alimentation Couche-Tard.

Today, the company has more than 8,000 locations in 10 countries, many of them franchises. The company operates a chain of convenience stores with many offering gasoline, propane refueling, and bill paying services.

The company is still expanding, with the first location in Costa Rica opening in 2015, and stores in Canada and Scandanavia being rebranded with the Circle K logo.

I don’t know the store number but location is 5713 state route 193 Kingsville Ohio 44048. Customer service is terrible. went in for gas at 3:30 in afternoon on Thursday nobody behind register to reset pump had to go inside to get employee attention (who were all in the back room at the time) and then they tried to make it seem like it was my fault. This is far from the first bad experience at this store, in the past have purchased easy pay card that never got the discount on the fuel ever time i tried to use it employees said system wasn’t working. Have gone into this store and found the employees all standing around complaining about customers in a volume that everyone could here.THIS is far from appropriate in a customer related business. Someone from circle k needs to bring this to the attention of the store owner or district manager. The employees of this store think the world revolves around them, i have in the past stopped at other circle k stores and have had no complaints but this store is terrible. Oh and buy the way at the same time i was trying to get fuel another customer had the same thing happen to her and she just drove away without getting fuel

Why is The cashier named Fr**da telling my boss she cant sell me so much booze ( half pint ) anymore instead of talking to me? She assumes im drinking it at work and that is completely false and unjust for her to tell my place of employment my business on what I purchase on my time off. I WAS buying them after work but they wont see a dime from me again and I demand disciplinary action against that woman immediately.

On May 15,2019 my mother and daughter and I was visiting Circle K/Valero in Hempstead, Texas. She and my daughter was leaving the inside of the store to head to the gas pumps where I was getting gas and slipped and fell in the store parking lot. The store clerk called the ambulance and my mom was transported to an Emergency room where she sustained a broken nose, chipped teeth and knee and facial abrasions.

Now at this point Circe K is not taking responsibility for the incident saying the parking lot was in the condition it was due to wear and tear but I honestly believe they should bear some responsibility. Maybe 2 days after the incident there were some repairs done to the same cracks my mother fell.
My mom is 75 yrs old and now has the sense that she is not safe going to this store and will not even get out even if I am there with her.
Circle K have some compassion and consideration when someone is hurt on your premises and don’t just blow it off as though it was her fault.

Tucson Arizona. Just got home from trip to store. Ran out of unsweet tea before full. Got home and tasted my Sprite no syrup. Pima and Columbus store. Very few visits something not wrong. No gas, no tea, sweet tea and unsweet in wrong machine. Two days last week not one Polar Cup in rack. Six people or more in line one checker. Always drug deals going on in lot. QT is going to put you out of business. Store at Fort Lowell and Country Club same situation. Talked to area manager several times. Nothing changes. He’s not up to the job. Don’t understand why your spending money to clean up stores when so many are run so poorly.

I think it is gross that your employees at 2754 N Power Rd., Mesa, AZ 85215 smoke at the door and make out with people in the parking lot. I stopped going there after seeing lots of PDA from a female employee and gagging from the cigarette smell

Re: Circle K Store at 11011 Bellefontaine Rd, St. Louis, MO 63138

I hope all is well.

At about 7 pm, on Saturday, December 29, 2018, I visited the above store. I went in and choose a soda and a bag of chips. I went to the counter. One clerk was putting money in the safe as the other clerk was sweeping behind the counter and talking to a male friend. I stood at the counter for several moments and the clerk who was sweeping the floor saw me, but did not acknowledge me at all. Several more moments passed and another customer walked into the store and to the counter. The one clerk was still putting money in the safe. The one with the broom immediately stopped sweeping, walked over to the other register, made eye contact with that customer and asked if she could help him.

I have conducted many mystery shops at various gas stations to include Circle K’s over the years. The clerk should help the first customer in line. I stepped over to that position and the clerk intentionally looked past me and continued to make eye contact with the other customer asking if she could help him. It was very obvious that she did not want to wait on me so I held up my items so she could clearly see I needed assistance which she finally offered. She offered no greeting nor a parting remark.

I left the store and ran an errand. As I drove past the store about ten minutes later, I saw the clerk who was putting money into the safe running around the parking lot with the male who was originally in the store.

I have played this over and over in my mind. I teach fair and impartial service courses. I waited to send this email to ensure I am not reading too much into this. However, I was a different race than the employees and the customers. I am not sure how to interpret this event other than the clerk chose to intentionally not wait on me and the only reason I am left with is that I was a different color. I hate to think that service would be based on such a minute issue as race, but I cannot find another reason for this service.

I would like to have someone reach out to me and perhaps we can work together to figure out if this is a misinterpretation on my part or if there is a true issue with the way this clerk interacts with customers.

Thank you and please enjoy the day.

On November 19th at 3011 Washington Road. Augusta Georgia 30909 Circle K I purchased a soda and a pack of cigarettes as I do every day then I was outside smoking a cigarette crawling for a Lyft driver the manager came out in a very ignorant smart voice saying you cannot stand there and I said I’m waiting on Lyft I don’t care you can’t stand there it made me very mad but I control my temper and myself I’m very proud of myself and I waited a few minutes and I went in and I said in a very calm voice I said ma’am I’m not being smart with you but I coming to store everyday and purchase things and I find this very amazing that I can’t stand there and wait for a Lyft yet there is so many times you have to step over wall to wall people that is out there begging people for money drugs cigarettes and they do nothing and use allow them to just sit there and hang out there they’re drunk on drugs and manager said to me well that’s your problem I guess you should call the police then and she said don’t come in here telling me about my Stewart and I said ma’am that’s not my job to call the police that would be your job don’t you come in here telling me how to run my store that’s what the manager said to me and I said why are you yelling and getting loud and getting all smart she said cuz you came in here doing that I did not and I turned around and walked away while she was being loud I went back outside and she comes to the door and tells me you need to leave now and I said yeah I’m going to leave she said no I said now and I said like I said I’m leaving she said okay will you just stand here just keep standing there she was going to call the police is very ignorant and very disrespectful of her because it angers me how much I see all these drug addicts and drunks and hanging out at that gas station and begging customers for money cigarettes whatever they can get and they be sitting all over around the darn gas station but yet I can’t stand there and wait for a cab

i am just wondering is circle k a racial store and all their store mangers make racial comments to all their customers ? how would they like it if we went in and use racial slurs to greet them?

David DANNA November 4, 2018 at 7:15 pm

…fyi: I’ve gone to several locations in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas 2 pump gas and to eat the hot dogs which I like but at every location all the fountain drinks have a peculiar aftertaste, I am not sure if it’s because they do not have a water filtration system or what it is because if you go to stripes their drinks are crisp clean flavorful with no aftertaste. Actually stop by right now in Harlingen at one of the locations and bought a sausage hot dog and a fountain drink but just like I did before I forgot and I will probably throw it away… The drink because of that after taste it has, as soon as I took the first sip I remembered why I had stopped going by Circle K’s and it’s because of the flavor of the water I believe that gives their Fountain drinks and aftertaste… I’m not sure if corporate knows about this but it is a deterrent for customers to go back.

I want to first say that I am a Happy Customer who goes to Circle K every day sometimes multiple times. I am from Yuma, Arizona and I am really having a hard time remaining a customer due to your front of the store always being littered with homeless people or panhandlers out front yelling or asking for change its really annoying as they block the entrance and it is not safe and makes me feel like going somewhere else to shop. Have told the managers before but to no avail. I do know that loitering is a crime maybe call police or have managers tell them to leave. Thanks for your time.

I stopped by your store #2706690, 1200 Columbus Parkway, Opelika, AL on June 21, 2018, at 8:00 a.m. for gas and a bite to eat. I was forced to wait 20 minutes because some of the pumps did not operate. I went to the restroom while waiting. I could not believe the stench, urine and feces on the floor, commode and sink. I refused to purchase any food because of the unsanitary condition of the store. I bought a sealed container of milk just to get the store number. Needless to say, I will no longer be stopping by Circle K except to take pictures to send to BBB and Health Department.

Your Gas City Indiana Location is a freaking joke! The girls are rude and unhelpful. I also wonder do you even freaking realize the massive wide spread false advertisement you have going on when it comes to the polar pops! You have a big red sign on the machines that clearly state any size for 79 cents. Yet I am consistely charged 1:06 or 1:29 for the XXLarge! Either start honoring your advertising or take the damn signs down! Before I or someone else suites you for false advertising. I have picture proof of the sign so don’t even try to deny it. Take the signs down or honor your advertising instead of stealing money from your customers.

Tonight again I went to purchase a 6 pack of beer and again the price shown on the shelf
5.99 was not what the clerk rang up. It was 6.99, only a dollar more but I wonder how many other people didn’t catch this mistake and overpaid unknowingly. this seems like false advertising to me and quite annoying ! This has happened perhaps 3-4 times this year alone and at different stores.

And as always the store clerk told me it didn’t matter because they were not allowed to charge
the price on the shelf if it was different. I’m 55 yrs old and this is the only store I have ever had this
problem with not honoring an advertised price. Once again we’re talking 1 dollar not a lot of money.

I’m sending a copy of this to the local Better Business Bureau and between your company and them
hopefully this issue will be resolved. If someone does not reply to this issue I’ll just let the local news
know about this for a slow news day. Good day

As of this date 9/29/2017 There are two managers at Circle K in Coolidge Arizona that are scheduling my daughter to work for 2/ 3hr. shifts and will not give my daughter more hours unless she agrees to be available 24/7 to come in to work. I believe there is a law against this. They (marketing manager and the made to go manager) get mad at her for not being awake at 9 am to take their calls so she can be called into work instead of being scheduled and told her that’s how she (my daughter) gets more hours so my daughter asked for a transfer that was eagerly approved by the made to go manager of the Superior store and was denied by the marketing manager of the Coolidge store saying that she had to move to the town of Superior before she could be transferred, this is not true. She then stated that she( Marketing Manager) needed to hire more employees before she (my daughter) could transfer but turned around and said she (my Daughter) was not good enough to transfer to another store. This manager also stated that because my daughter was not willing to go work at yet a third separate store to “use initiative and clean it up” that she did not deserve to transfer. My daughter was sent to this third separate store in Casa Grande, Arizona previously to cover shifts. The store was in disarray and had expired food on the shelves for sale to customers and spent the entire shift cleaning and restocking the food in a store she was not hired for; she did not want to go back because of the state of the store. These are personal attacks against a young unknowledgeable dedicated employee. I personally heard the whole conversation via speaker phone. A person cannot live on 6-10 hours of work per week. Is this how Circle K treats all of their employees~ not in Coolidge, Arizona. P.S. It should also be noted that the marketing manger in Coolidge, AZ refused to give my daughter the number for Human Resources when she (my daughter) stated she was wanted to file a grievance and needed to contact Circle K Human Resources.

I stop on a regular basis for morning coffee at the circle k on 953 W Nmisila Rd. Akron, Ohio and 8 out 10 times at 7a.m. they have 2 to 3 employees and every coffee container is empty. Please explain to me why in the world a place that is heavily advertising great morning coffee never actually has coffee available. With the amount of employees on staff it seems to me that hot coffee at rush hour would be priority. Poor management skills and frankly I now drive out of my way to speedway for my morning cup of Joe. I do this because I know they will have fresh coffee and great service. It would be wise to speak with management and find out why this store is to lazy to have coffee in the morning rush hour times. I’ve personally witnessed several others that were stopping for coffee and walked out as well taking their business elsewhere.

Wow not worth one star September 10, 2017 at 5:56 pm

I recently purchased 2 of your cheese hot dogs with your mayonaise pkgs your onion pkgs from your 61 SOUTH VICKSBURG MS circle k shells.
It made me sick food poisoning. After i first ate it i didnt notice anything this was around 6pm on june 19 2017. After i ate it i went to sleep to get ready for work at 11pm. I woke up around 9 pm to get ready for work. When i awoke i had this nauseous sick type feeling but i didnt think non of it i had been feeling a lil under the weather earlier soo i just went on to work. As soon as i got out of my car at work about 10:30pm i had the urge to use it..i rushed to the rest room to use it. When i did got there man i blew it upp!! Like bad diarrhea with my upper abdominal area mildly bothering me.again i didnt think much of it. At 10:50 or so i colcked in then went to my work area which am a crane operator at woodyard at IP vicksburg paper mill. When i got inside crane it persistantly got worse. At about 1am or soo i came down to get some rolaids and anacids because i thought i had bad gas or bad indigestion. I went back on crane hoping it would stop and calm down but it didnt the pain and nauseous feeling was steady getting worse. I had a feeling like i was about to die i came off crane walked to the office while walking i was praying i make it and not pass out. I got to office told them i had to go home. I stepped out of office got on my knees held my stomach because it made it feel a lil better. After about 10 minutes on my knees i went back in office told them i coulnt drive home i was calling my wife to come get me take too E R.. I did called her after about 20 minutes my area boss notice how much pain i was in told me he was calling the mill manager to let him know. He came down told me to call my wife back let her know to go straight to E R that they was bringing me there i was in too much pain they didnt know if something had ruptured or what. So we did. They rushed me to E R. I got to emergency room about 2 or 3 i dont really know but when i did. They immediatly took blood tests ask me questions told me my pain was from the bad food i had ate. I had blood testes and cat scan done then finally after these testes at about 6 that morning they gave me a shot fir the pain and another shot i forgot i was in soo much pain when they was giving it. The shots helped thankfully. And the testes they did everything was normal except i had extremly high liver enzymes. The morning doctor around 7 told me to see a doctor and to be checked for hepititas and other things because my enzymes was soo high. I did that day around 2 went to doctor they did all kinds of blood work to see why my enzymes was soo high saying that the food poisoning may had something to do with it but they had to rule out everything.
After a couple days of sweating alot getting hot quickly with this mild nausiated feeling and mild andominal pain i guess just feeling it from when it happend it went away mostly gone after 4 days. On monday june 26 2017 i nervously went back to dr to get my lab results where i was told everything was normal and too check back in mid july to recheck my liver enzymes too see how far down it came.should come back down to normal dr say.
With my emergency room visit. I missed a day from work was off a couple on schedule off days with pain and suffering i think i am owed some monetary compensation!!!!
Am writing to tryto settle this before pursuing this in a court room.
Please know that i am very serious about this. I went through too much pain to not seek compensation. I mean i thought i was about to die. This could have been my child someone baby or something that ate this and could have did them worse then me.
Circle K owes me some compensation and i will seek it
Thankyou and please respond soon like ASAP. I will file charges or whatever i need to do in court of law

I normally call the phone number listed on the window. However, when I noticed the name I knew that it would be in vain. The Market Manager listed is Heather Heller, I’ve called and left many messages in the past and have NEVER heard back from her. Which is in hopes that this form of communication, gets a reply back. My concern is long and very detailed. Therefore, a call back would be better justifiable. The location of concern is Circle K # 2703734, 3443 W Dunlap, Phoenix, AZ 85051 Register #1 4/15/2017, approx. 7:45 -7:55 AM. I very much look forward to speaking with a Market Manager, I’ll be awaiting a reply phone call, (602) 418-XXXXX. Thank, you for your time thus far.
