Britax History

Britax was formed in 1939 out of a company called British Accessories.

In 1973, the company acquired Germany company Romer and also launched their first child car seat.

In 1986, Australian company Safe-N-Sound was acquired.  In 1987, the company acquired Steelcraft.

In 1996, Britax USA is formed and their first car seat, the Freeway, is launched in the US.  A year later, the Roundabout, their first convertible car seat is launched.

In 1997, the first booster seat is launched.  The first ISOFIX seat is also launched.  ISOFIX eventually becomes the LATCH system.

In 2000, Britax launches their first infant car seat.

Britax is currently the best selling child car seat manufacturer in Europe and one of the top manufacturers in the USA.  In addition to carseats, the company also produces strollers, baby carriers and other accessories.

Purchased a Britax B-safe Travel System. Plastic clip jammed and would not open. After three people tried and the baby was in a panic, our primary concern was to get the baby out of the car seat and therefore we cut the strap. Called Britax and CS was NOT cooperative in replacing the harness and clip. Asked to speak to Manager and was told it would be 24-48 hours. Appears to be a common complaint and an obvious design flaw but CS refuses to stand behind the product. CS said we should have called them when it happened and before we cut the strap….however they do not have a 24 hour line???? Not sure how I feel about the safety now. A product with integrity should have a company with integrity behind it. It’s a 30.00 part – that’s not my complaint. The issue is the integrity to stand behind your product. That’s my complaint and now concern about the product.

Dear Britax,
I purchased your bob motion travel system in December 2016, after reading up on its pneumatic/shock absorbing tires and great maneuverability, as well as the travel system component. Much to my surprise, I was informed of a recall about 2 weeks after my son was born in Feb 2017. Since then, I have called customer service on 3 separate occasions and just yesterday received my recalled pieces (which do not properly fit). Since my son has a medical condition, he’s not supposed to be lying flat in his strollers at this developmental stage, which was a resolution told to me by my first attempted contact with customer service (at that time my son was just a few weeks old). It has been 2 months and I still have not been able to use my stroller. As of today when I called about the recall parts not fitting (the one piece is now stuck on the stroller improperly), the resolutions provided included: exchanging our stroller for the b ready (which is nothing like the bob motion), or pay an additional $240+ brokerage fees for the revolution?! I don’t think those are accepted options. I should not have to accept a stroller that is of lesser value, and pay more for one that is simply because the motion is no longer available.

Purchased many Britax items for my grandchildren. That ENDS NOW. Recently the safe cell technology broke on the car seat and my granddaughter called to get a replacement. The representative was very rude to her and would NOT send a new one. For the price of your items I would think a minor part like this would be no problem for you to satisfy a customer. I am writing this complaint because the other grandmother purchased a GRACO car seat for the other child and recently there was a slight problem. My granddaughter called Graco and explained what happened and she WAS SENT A BRAND NEW CAR SEAT. I now tell everyone about this experience and the comparison between two companies satisfying their customers. Also, I hope people reading reviews will think twice before they buy your brand.

Don’t let your child stand on the bottom seat!
i got the stroller and loved it. its really nice and easy to fold/unfold. its super comfirtable for the children and i love seat recliner. The only thing that made me stop using it is that when we were at the park my son climbed into the second seat without me seeing, he stood up and the strolled immediately tipped over which made my son land on the concrete ground. As soon as i picked him up he vomited so i had to take hi m to the ER to make sure there was no concussion. I’m a good mom and watch my kids closely. i felt so badly that this has happened to my baby, i stopped using the stroller. i believe it could be made more safe, as kids will be kids and climb in any change they get.

You are the 4th company I have contacted. I have an a new ides that will change the baby car seat industry and save lifes. Its simplefor very little cost and no one has thought of it and will change the industry for ever. Please have your CEO call me.

I purchased a britax carsest because I’ve heard great things about them. I actually own three round about car seat. Well a couple days ago I went to snap in the plastic piece that goes across the chest and one of the prongs broke off making the seat unsafe to use. I am very disappointed. I took the extra time to research and found that britax is top of the line for safety. This certainly makes it uneasy for me to purchase britax for my new grand baby. Is there something the company can do to make this right. A car seat that expensive should not have major issues like this. A prompt response would be greatly appreciated. Hello Karl Kahofer,
I wanted to tell you what a great product you have in the baby carrier that you wrap around yourself. It is amazing and has made my life so much easier. I love your product. I wanted to ask you if I could do something for you. I would LOVE to review your Toddler Booster Seats for you. I have a 4 year old that is about 37 lbs. We were looking on line and he really likes the Dale Earnhardt Jr. Toddler Booster. I would be willing to comment on this product via Twitter/Facebook and word of mouth if you would allow me to. I know that this is asking a lot but I would really love to do this. I have many friends with kids and I also do a lot of play dates. My son will be starting pre-school soon and this would also be a venue to speak GREAT things about your product. The car seat that he is using now is not very good at all. The snaps are always getting stuck and he really hates it. He is really ready for a booster and I believe he would love riding in one that was safe of good quality. Please Britax I pray that you will allow me to do this for you. If you are unable to send me the combination car seat and booster, I would certainly review just the booster for you.
