Atlanta Bread Company History

Atlanta Bread Company was founded in 1993, when brothers, Jerry and Basil Couvaras purchased a Sandy Springs Sandwich shop. The company began franchise operations the following year. The company operates a chain of sandwich and bakery shops in the US.

The company grew very quickly and by 2006 had more than 232 franchises, as well as corporate owned locations. The Couvaras brothers were charged with fraud in South Africa in 2004 and paid more than $5.5 million in fines, but avoided jail time. The company suffered as a result, with most small business administration loans going into default. The company ranked #11 on the SBA’s list of 25 Worst Franchises.

CEO Jerry Couvaras states that the company is back on track, however, and growing once more, but this time, more slowly. Today the company has about 50 locations, but they are hiring once more and making plans to re-open some of their former locations in 2017.

I visited Atlanta Bread in Brick NJ tonight and was extremely disappointed. The store is located at 1042 Cedar Bridge Avenue…732-451-1400. I ordered a Caprese Sandwich and it was devoid of basil. Please note that I have had prior issues with sandwiches and on two prior occasions called the store directly over the past year noting that the order was incorrect….then vowing never to return. My husband wanted a sandwich after a movie tonight, and Atlanta Bread was nearby. When I received my sandwich it was missing basil and the bread was not toasted as I requested. I returned the sandwich, and it was returned to me with one basil leaf and a half of leaf of each half. In the past, I have had this sandwich, and I know it’s composition. I have never had issues with Panera and a robust sandwich. I will not return to Atlanta Bread.

I have a question about the Loyalty Points program. Is there a way to merge points if I have 2 numbers? Awhile ago, there was a problem with the points program, as the system was down and was not able to add my points.

I gave the manager at the Dunwoody location my cell number by accident and she applied the points to that number. My account is actually under my home number, 404/252-5483.
I have 95 points under my home number 404/252-XXXX and
28 points under my cell number 404/273-XXXX
Can you merge these these points under my 404/252-XXXX number?
The young woman who helped me yesterday at the restaurant said this could not be done, but I felt I should contact you as you may have more access to the Loyalty points program.
Thank you for any help you can give to me.
Regards, Linda Steger
